In the wake of the controversy that shook the game industry about its employment practice, discussions about quality of life and hiring practice now abound. It took a few very public voices such as the Ubi Free (virtual union of Ubisoft employees), or more recently the very publicized EA_spouse (Erin Hoffman a writer who was married to a then EA programmer) to shun the light on those practices.
Of course the voice of a few individuals on a few projects that turned bad may not represent the reality for studios that often span several countries. Yet people may often not wish to speak publicly of these problems on the fear that it would compromise their own situation at these studios.
Game industry veteran Jeremy Chateleine (Lionhead and Electronic Arts amongst other companies he worked for) has his own answer to those seeking information about a particular workplace. He decided to host his own database with information that is fed directly from game developers in a way that minimizes their exposure yet ensures that the data is not "polluted" by people outside those companies.
